Three Crying Pieces (2002) 1. bolga dodds [mp3,
score] Susan Parenti gave me the idea of "screaming pieces" that you write when the figure from the Munch painting isn't handy. There are lots of reasons to scream but only a few to cry, the main one being that hope for peace is dwindling. The pieces were made using bosch using as input a drawing made in OmniGraffle and two digital photographs of the ornate architecture of Paris's left bank, processed through various standard Photoshop filters. They trace the development of bosch; by louvre1b I had smoothed out the clipping resulting from sudden amplitude jumps at hard edges, which I had originally meant to keep. "bolga dodds" is "soft English" for "polka dots". -- M. Cepstral |
